The thin-walled tube who’s material is molybdenum single crystal substrate by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) tungsten single crystal, which have {111} crystal orientation (axial), is used as an important parts of thermal plasma converter-emitter. The share of Tungsten surface {110} on the emitter surface plays a key role in energy conversion efficiency of the ion thermal converter. But, conventional method is difficult to carry on the surface processing of the thin-walled tube. However, electrochemical etching can solve this problem well. So in this paper, we use an electrochemical etching method to prepare the emitter surface which have a high amount of a {110} plane.Based on the structural characteristics and processing requirements of thin-walled tube, we designed a electrolytic etching system for the surface processing of the thin-walled tube, the system consists of electrolytic etching machine body, electrolytic etching process equipment, electrolyte systems, control systems and other. This paper has completed the electrolytic etching machine structure design and three-dimensional modeling, Workbench is used for the structural analysis and structural optimization of the electrochemical etching machine. And in accordance with the processing requirements of the thin-walled tube, electrolytic etching pipe surface processing equipment is designed. Anode and cathode tool is positioned and clamped by the processing equipment. What is more, the processing equipment ensure the positive and negative of power source can be linked to etch the anode and cathode.This paper established a mathematical model of the electric field and the electrolyte flow field, the simulation analysis for the machining gap electric field and flow field was introduced by application of COMSOL Multiphysics. According to the result simulation analysis, optimization design of the cathode was completed.The control systems of electrolytic etching machine was designed based on machine movement, it could control the machine body, etching power, temperature control device, the electrolyte pumps and other equipment simultaneously.According to the finite element analysis software verification test, this set of electrolytic etching system dynamic characteristics, static characteristics and strength could meet the design requirements.
