In order to improve the interfacial adhesion of aramid fiber reinforced resin matrix composites, In this paper, a series of novel thermosetting resin (AFR) matrix based on the principle of aramid and similar compatible structure characteristics was developed. The curing kinetics of four different kind of AFR resin systems was studied through Kissinger-Crane method and Ozawa method. Besieds, the AFR resin curing system was assured. The mechanical properties, heat resistance, dielectric properties, water absorption and thermal expansion behavior of AFR resin castings were also measured. Finally, the interface bond performance of AFR resin with aramid fiber was discussed. The results showed that the order of curing reactivity of AFR resin system was AFR-T>AFR-TE>AFR-F>AFR-E, and the curing reaction order were one. The water absorption of all four AFR resin castings was below1%. The flexural strength of all resin castings were close, but the tensile strength and the tensile modulus of AFR-T, AFR-TE resin castings were higher (respectively86.3MPa,75.6MPa). In a addition, the elongation (3.14%) and impact strength (34.2kJ·m-2) of AFR-TE resin casting were the highest. The heat distortion temperature of AFR-T and AFR-TE resin casting (HDTT=125.3℃, HDTTE=123.5℃) respectively increased by27%and25%compared with E-51epoxy resin, indicating that the AFR-TE resin have better overall performance. The surface energy of AFR-T and AFR-TE resin (respectively38.04mN/m and37.69mN/m) were close to the aramid fiber surface energy (38.4mN/m), the contact angle of AFR-T and AFR-TE resin solutions with aramid fiber cloth were smaller (respectively, AFR-TE=36.9°and AFR-T=34.2°). The interlaminar shear strength of aramid/AFR-T and aramid/AFR-TE composites (73.5MPa,71.2MPa) increased by26.7%and22.8%compared with aramid/E-51epoxy composite, and transverse tensile strength of aramid/AFR-TE composite (25.3MPa) increased32.5%compared with Kevlar/E-51epoxy composites, which showed that AFR-T and AFR-TE resin had good wetting quality and interface adhesion performance with aramid fiber.
