The Nitraria genus, which belongs to the Zygophyllaceae family, is a kind of shrub that produces esculent berries. It is widely distributed in the Middle East, Central Asia and the northwest region of China. Its fruits can help lower high blood pressure, high blood fat, and have anti-fatigue effects. In order to find the pharmacological active compounds in it, chemical components of Nitraria were extracted, and then these components were separated and purified by silica gel, RP-18(ODS), Sephadex LH-20, MCI and so on. Thirteen natural compounds were isolated from Nitraria fruits, and seven natural compounds were isolated from Nitraria stem. Their structures were identified by spectral evidence (UV, IR, ESI-MS, CD,1H NMR,13C NMR and2D NMR), all the results were discussed. These compounds belong to the lignans, alkaloids, or flavonoids.Valeriana jatamansi, also named Matixiang, Laojunxu, Chouyao, or Laohuqi et al. its earliest record is in the "Compendium of Materia Medica". It is warm in nature, acrid and bitter flavor. It has function of regulating qi to alleviate pain, to check diarrhea, expel wind-evil and remove wetness. It is usually used in abdominal distention, gas pains, dyspepsia, diarrhea, dysentery, rheumatic arthralgia and lassitude loin and legs. The modern nature product chemistry study results showed its main contents were iridoids, sesquiterpenes, flavonoids and so on. In order to find the pharmacological active compounds in it, chemical components of Valeriana jatamansi were extracted, and then these components were separated and purified by silica gel, RP-18(ODS), Sephadex LH-20, MCI and so on. Seventeen natural compounds were isolated from Valeriana jatamansi. Their structures were identified by spectral evidence (UV, IR, ESI-MS, CD,1H NMR,13C NMR and2D NMR), these compounds belong to the iridoids, lignans, or flavonoids. All the results were discussed.
