Asbestos is a silicate mineral products, it has a wide range of applications in thelife and production. Asbestos have excellent physical and chemical properties. It is amaterial of high tensile strength, heat resistance and chemical stability. Asbestos alsohas excellent strong adsorption properties. Asbestos has very good compatibility withclay, cement, rubber and other substances. Asbestos used in chemical industry, machinery, construction and many other fields. Especially asbestos are very commonin the building materials and automotive materials. With the deepening of the application, people are gradually aware of the adverseeffects on human health of asbestos fibers. The human inhalation may cause of lungcancer and other diseases. Most countries especially Europe countries and USA havethe intention to gradually reduce or even ban the use of asbestos. International cancerresearch organizations have long claimed that asbestos was a carcinogen. Asbestosfibers generated in the process of production and use of asbestos can pollute theatmosphere, food and water, enter the body through the respiratory tract and theinterior. Therefore, the content of building materials and automotive materials of thedaily life in contact with asbestos must be strictly controlled. The research is mainly to detect asbestos fiber materials using polarizingmicroscopy and X-ray diffraction method. Characteristic diffraction angles and curvesof the quantitative of six kinds of asbestos are determined by scanning standardsamples. Eventually it can be used for rapid and accurate qualitative and quantitativedetection of construction and automotive materials. Polarizing microscope, X-raydiffraction-scanning electron microscopy united usage and infrared spectroscopy wasalso studied and discussed in this research. It can be concluded that polarizingmicroscopy and X-ray diffraction-the use of scanning electron microscopy can also beused to asbestos testing, infrared spectroscopy are not applicable to asbestos testing ofsuch materials.
