Offshore exploration work has entered a more developed stage. Easy exploration anddevelopment of high porosity and permeability oil and gas reservoirs become less and less.The complex oil and gas reservoirs, such as tri-low reservoirs, become important substitutions.With the rapid development of China national economy, the demand for oil and gas energyincreases in recent years. And with the trend of high international oil prices, exploration anddevelopment of tri-low oil and gas reservoirs and other complex reserves have been graduallyput on the agenda. The key is using a new technology which can improve the explorationefficiency and success rate. The managed pressure drilling (MPD), derived fromunderbalanced drilling technology, is a new drilling technology using underbalanced drillingequipment and advanced pressure control method. This technology uses the scientific methodand technology to closely monitor and control bottomhole pressure. Control the dynamicbottomhole pressure at a predetermined pressure within the window—according to thecircumstances of the formation, the purpose of the drilling,and the practiocal problems of theproject. The MPD is an important measure to solve the problem of the offshore explorationand development.This paper describes the equipments and processes of the MPD. Present anew formation pressure prediction method of the JZ25-1S oil field Archean fissure formation,calculated the tri-pressure section of the JZ25-1S oil field. Accomplished the research aboutthe monitoring and collecting methods of the main parameters of the well head pressurecontrol, determined the type and display mode of the sensors, presented a well head pressurecontrol project based on the PLC high-speed switching valves, and finished the program ofthe controlling software. The validation of the well head pressure control system is verified bylaboratory testing. The MPD system is used in JZ25-1S oil field, and the field effect is verywell.
