During the more-than-a-century period from Louis XIV’s enthronement in1661to theFrench Revolution in1789, the Chateau de Versailles, which was the home to the mostprominent royal family in France, born three major artistic styles, i.e., the Baroque, the Rococoand the Neoclassicism.Using Chateau de Versailles as the research background, this thesis employs the method ofcomparative analysis and field research in its deep and systematic analysis of the reflection andembodiment of the Baroque, Rococo and the Neoclassical style on the furniture and interiorfurnishing from Louis XIV to Louis XVI.(1) Taking the Chateau de Versailles as the mainline, this thesis, on the one hand, discussesthe socio-historical background from Louis XIV to Louis XVI, and on the other hand analyzesthe construction background, historical significance and role of the Chateau de Versailles, aswell as its architectural style, interior furnishing and landscape features, all of which layfoundation for the latter discussion of the interior furnishing and interior scene.(2) Through consulting various historical documents and making a field research of thefurniture inside the Chateau de Versailles, this thesis elaborates the different styles of thefurniture from Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI, as well as their distinctive features andgradual transmutation in terms of style, material, structure, decorative patterns, and the craftsbeen adopted.(3) By comparing the styles of interior furnishing from different periods, this thesisanalyzes the influence of social etiquette and behavior upon the different interior decorationstyles, and further discusses the changes of the space layout and function partition caused by thedifferent styles.(4) Through the practice and investigation in different furniture enterprises majoring inproducing western-style furniture, as well as the inspection of the production process,manufacturing techniques, production design of some classic European style furniture, thisthesis discusses the application and development of the house decoration and design of classicEuropean style.This thesis, on one hand, marks off the artistic styles in different period through theinspection of the changes of art itself, thus illustrating the development of self-discipline withinthe art itself; on the other hand, it explores the influence of etiquette and social behavior upon the different interior decorations. On the above basis, this thesis, combined with the interiorscenes, various works of art (mainly includes furniture and interior furnishing) and relevantdecorative techniques in particular historical periods, attempted to elaborate and to restore theoriginal historical appearance of the17thto18thcentury history of art form different angles andin a3D manner.
