Waterborne wood coating has been developed abroad for many years, while it is still at a preliminary stage in the domestic market, where organic solvent-based paints still occupy a major share. As a new domestic furniture manufacture method, the scale of American style coating is expanded year by year. Regular American style coating mainly consists of nitrolacquer, which does great harm to the environment. With the development of environmental regulation, American style coating trends to be aqueous. It requires the waterborne coating not only solvent-resistance, hardness, adhesion properties, but also permeability, drying time due to its special manufacture method. According to its specific requirements, some research on synthesis of the emulsion, selection of resin, substrate wetting agent, flatting agent, and drying condition have been done in the article. The main research works are as follows:1. Latexes with different glass transition temperature were synthesized using semi-continuous seed emulsion polymerization by pre-emulsification method and adjusting the mass ratio of MMA and BA. The average diameters and distributions of latex particles were characterized by dynamic laser scattering (DLS). The quantity of texanol was changed to adjust the minimum filming temperature.2. Waterborne wood primer was prepared with latexes of different glass transition temperature, among which proper emulsion was selected by evaluating the film performance. The effect and selection of various substrate wetting agents on the decrease of surface tension and contact angle, film performance impact and so on were evaluated.3. The impact of flatting agent on the properties of waterborne wood finishing paint has been researched, which requires high extinction index and little impact on film performance.4. The drying speed of paint film is speeded up by near-infrared drying device. The film performance of different dry temperature and time has been compared with film drying at room temperature under natural condition. The dry time is evaluate by TGA.
