Ecological environment is the basis and core of sustainable development of human society.Eco-environmental quality marks the ability for the development of economy and society. It also marksthe coordination degree of social production and living environment. Fully recognize and correct evaluationEco-environmental quality is the important foundation for regional economic development planning andenvironment construction.In this paper, Landsat TM image data, digital elevation model (DEM), soil type data, base maps andstatistical information are used as data source. By using GIS and RS as techniques, the paper establish theIndex system which including hydro-thermal and weather factor, Topography factor, Land cover factor andsoil erosion factor. The paper comprehensively evaluated the ecological environment quality of theSandstone area in2000and2010by using principal component analysis evaluation model. On the basis ofthe results, this paper explores the characteristics and regularities of the environmental variation ofsandstone and give suggestions.The main achievements and conclusions in this paper are as follows:(1) Eco-environmental quality of the Sandstone area in2000and2010is ordinary and the grade isgiven priority to general and poor, but it has been improved in2010compared with2000.The spatialdistribution of Eco-environmental quality of the Sandstone is uneven. Eco-environmental quality in middleand north are better than east, west and north.(2) This paper collects various data of sandstone including geography, physiognomy, population,environment and so on through multiple channels. The ecological environment database of sandstone wasestablished too. It is a good foundation for further study. (3) Principal component analysis is used as evaluate model in this paper. This method can avoid errorfrom empowerment weight value from human and also keep most of the information. Meanwhile, it makesthe process of evaluation more convenient and quick and the results more reasonable.(4) Eco-environmental quality evaluation of sandstone has not yet been reported because of theparticularity and complexity of its natural and geographical environment. This paper generated the map ofecological environment level. It can provide reference to know the current situation of eco-environmentquality and it is also the basis for further study.(5) GIS and RS are used as technic of assessment of eco-environmental quality which changed thetraditional method. The method has advantages of getting data easily, containing wealth of information andanalyzing and evaluating rapidly. At the same time, it can realize the quantitative expression of the wholespace area which makes it possible for grasping the ecological environment quality condition quickly andaccurately.(6)RS and GIS Based Comprehensive Assessment on Eco-environmental Quality of the Area ofSandston can be a way for people to understand the current situation and the results of environmentalmanagement. At the same time it can be used as a reference of examining the results of Soil and waterconservation and making Environmental decision.
