The Comparative Study On Design Of Yi Ethnic Furniture Between Chuxiong And Liangshan

Minority cultures are increasingly favored researchers, as a representative of highlightingthe unique traditional culture, the minority ethnic furniture has gradually attracted moreattention, so the protection on minority furniture has also become a research focus of a newera.Yi nationality gradually has formed unique cultures in its long course of development,and the long history has created its quaint characters. In the long-term development, byintegrating outstanding cultures of other nationalities, Yi nationality has gradually formed itsown cultural tradition for thousands of years. In recent years, studies on Yi nationality haveformed a certain scale. The study content includes astronomical calendar, languages, socialtraditions, medicine literature and many other fields. However, compared with these respectsabove, studies on material carriers carrying traditional cultures of Yi nationality are relativelyrare. In these studies, studies on ethnic costumes, lacquer work and architecture are alsobeginning to take shape, except for Yi nationality furniture that shows very few studyachievements. Yunnan Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture and Sichuan Liangshan YiAutonomous Prefecture are two regions in which Yi population is mostly distributed. Yinationality furniture of two regions is based on a variety of regional wood and decorated bytechniques such as carving and painting, thus forming their different styles of furniture underdifferent conditions such as environment and economy, in which, traditional culture of Yinationality and imprint of development of times are permeated. It is the crystal of wisdom ofYi people. Two different regions of Yi nationality are homologous and have commonexcellent national cultural traditions created by Yi ancestors. After they were separated intotwo regions, in the long development process, different geographical environments, socialsystems, cultural developments, lifestyles and economic status affect the developmentdirection ofYi nationality furniture.The author stepped into the Chuxiong and Liangshan Yi district in June and November of2013, respectively, visited11cities with different scales and economies, collected informationthrough visits, questionnaires and interviews as well as recorded research information byphotos and writing, hence obtaining a lot of first-hand information related to Yi nationalityfurniture. And on the basis of research, comparative methods were used for two regions of Yinationality furniture, starting from design characteristics, to compare differences andsimilarities of function, form, color, material and construction technology aspects. Combiningwith effects of geographical environment, economic development, lifestyle, multiculture andother aspects of two regions, root causes inducing this situation were further studied.Meanwhile, future design trends of Yi furniture were explored, and requirements of thedevelopment were proposed for implementers and objective environments of Yi furniture design. The study will involve a wide range of content, including the development of Yinationality furniture, furniture design and social development of Yi nationality, to explore inhistorical development, changes and developments generated by Yi nationality furniture indifferent geographical, social and cultural environments to further analyze the developmentand evolution of Yi nationality culture, forming a certain theoretical results for the study ofminority cultures.
