The cinnamic acid and its analogues or derivatives with π-π conjugation andbiological activity such as antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects, are widely usedin photosensitive materials, medicine, health care, and agriculture. In this thesis, underthe solvothermal conditions, from (2E,2’E)-3,3’-((propane-1,3-diylbis(oxy))bis(2,1-phenylene))diacrylic acid (H2ppa), N-ligands (phen,1,3-pyridyl propane,4,4,-bpy) and metal salt, six new supramolecular compounds with novel structures andphotoluminescent properties have been synthesized, namely, Cd(ppa)(phen)(H2O)(1),Zn(Hppa)2(phen)(2), Zn(ppa)(phen)(H2O)(3), Mn3(ppa)3(phen)2(H2O)(4),Zn2(ppa)2(dpp)(5) and Cd(ppa)(4,4′-bpyˊ)0.5(6). The X-ray single crystal diffractionsreveal compounds1and3are isostructural, monoclinic P21/c space group, and havediscrete or zero-dimensional (0-D) meso-helical structure just like English alphabet ‘O’,while the structure of2like English alphabet ‘W’. The compound5has athree-dimensional (3-D) coordination structure with (4.6.8)(4.62.83) topology,containing a second building unit (SBU) like mathematical symbol∞(infinite).Coordination polymers4and6have two-dimensional (2-D) layer structures.Elemental analysis, IR, thermogravimetric (TG), X-ray powder diffraction, andfluorescence analysis characterize the six new compounds. Thermogravimetric analysisshowed that all compounds have good thermal stability. X-ray powder diffractionsreveal the experimental products are monophase. The compound1-6possess blue orultraviolet luminscence, which provides new experimental basis for finding newsolid-state luminescent materials.In this thesis, the filter paper method was used for testing antibacterial activity ofsupramolecular compounds, The experimental results of biological activity revealsupramolecular2,3and4have poor antibacterial activity to gram-negative bacteriumescherichia coli and gram-positive bacterium thuringiensis, furtuer bioactive research tothe other strains would be needed.
