| The thesis analyzed the formative factor and main feature of Roman costume from the perspective of social class, so as to analyze its impact on modern apparel design. From the initial formation of the Roman Empire to the establishment of the social hierarch, the ancient Romans lived a simple life, dressed in simple clothing, which has become an early social characteristics. Everything with the development of the Roman Empire and frequent wars caused by foreign expansion, these all made Roman became an empire across Asia, Africa, Europe, everything is changing. With the increasing wealth of the Roman Empire, Romans began to pursue the pleasure and luxury, apparel became the most significant manifestation of the growing attention to the luxury apparel. Costumes in all walks of life in ancient Rome, apparently aristocratic clothing had some representation, no matter of materials or workmanship, the nobility had the strength to make it better. Because the nobility is the upper class, their ideas and dressing style occupied the mainstream, thus aristocratic costume could show a country’s main consciousness of a certain era. Roman costume was a part of the ancient Roman civilization, the aristocratic costume concentrated to show it all.In this paper, starting from the Roman hierarchy system, examines the characteristics of the most representative costumes of aristocracy, including the Roman aristocracy clothing styles, colors, materials, shoes, hairstyles, jewelry and other related research, so as to further discuss the Roman aristocracy clothing’s impact to modern fashion design. Finally, through the Roman nobility clothing aesthetic thinking, draw three features of Roman costume’s beauty. Roman art which includes clothing is a shining pearl, where Roman art exhibit distinct times and great eternity. |
