In order to protect the environment and use the limited underground resourcesmore effectively, parallel buried pipelines which laying in one ditch has becoming amainstream trend. Once the leakage occurs, the impact is tremendous with theincreasing density of pipeline. Therefore,it is essential to detect the corrosion of parallelburied pipes.The ANSYS software was used to simulate the detection of parallel buriedpipes by transient electromagnetic method.The simulation results were verified throughexperiments.The detect principle and equipment of transient electromagnetic method wereintroduced. The response curves of different thickness under the same environmentwere acquired. Then, the testing result of the probe deviating from pipes was simulatedby ANSYS.It was indicated that measured signal was smaller and the decay was fasterwith the increasing of the offset distance.Subsequently,the result was verified byexperiments. The necessity to ensure stable relative position of the probe and pipeduring detection was showed, the importance of pipeline detector was demonstrated.Afterwards,the model of corrosive parallel pipeline was established.The signal of largerwall thickness turned to be stronger, the attenuation more slowly.In horizontaldirection,the signal was smaller if the probe was closer to the corrosion. The position ofcorrosion area was ascertained by measuring the induced voltage in different points.Theeffective range of detection was verified. Finally, the simulation results was verifiedthrough experiments and engineering practice. It turns out that the transientelectromagnetic method can be used to detect parallel buried pipelines as well as to findout the corrosion area accurately. The results of this study has significance on detectingthe parallel buried pipelines effectively.
