Automotive engine as the core component of the car is developing toward thedirection of high power.With the improvement of the performance of engine power,heat yield also will increase. Auto radiator as an important part in automobile enginecooling system, the manufacturing technology and performance, as well as theproduction improvement of its various components have been gotten more and moreattention.With the development of the auto industry, the demand of the radiator is alsoincreasing day by day, and the radiator structure has developed to be light, efficient andeconomic.The connection of the auto radiator water room and main piece is one of theimportant procedures in the manufacture process of the radiator products. The quality ofthe water chamber directly affects the radiator’s air tightness, pressure.The TIG weldingis the most widely uesd to connect the radiator water chamber and the main pieces mode.But the production efficiency is low. In this article, the method of furnace brazing isused by assembling the radiator core body, water chamber and main piece firstly, andthen welding overall, which can omit the TIG process of water chamber and main piece.In addition, the best process parameters determined using numerical simulation,reducing repeated testing cycle of the furnace brazing production parameters. Byanalysis of brazing specification, optimizing the process parameters, the productivity isimproved and the cost is reduced.In this paper, the process optimization of furnace brazing for radiator is studied bythe numerical simulation and experimentation analysis.Through the analysis of the heattransfer of furnace brazing process and the actual production conditions,three-dimensional heat transfer mode of the radiator is established.The temperature fieldwith radiator water chamber and the main piece of furnace brazing is simulated byANSYS. The result shows that the model is accuracy by comparing the numericalsimulation and experiment.Furnace brazing experiment was completed in a refrigeration equipment company inChongqing. The parameters of the field is set up basis on the result of numericalsimulation. The brazing seam appearance and microstructure were observed andanalyzed, and the hydrostatic test, gas tightness detection and SWAAT sea salt spraycorrosion test were made to test the brazing joints under different process parameters. The effect of heat preservation time on the radiator braze weld jointmicrostructure by studying the belt speed of the furnace brazing. According to theresults of experiment and simulation, the optimization scheme of the radiator in thefurnace brazing is made: Mesh belt speed is820mm/min. The brazing phase isdivided into six partitions, that is,610℃,615℃,620℃,630℃,630℃,625℃, theproducts were qualified. The method improves the radiator production efficiency,moreover, the feasibility of the simulation guidance on the process is furtherconfirmed.
