Graphite oxide (GO) and graphene materials play important roals inbiochemistry, synthetic chemistry, material chemistry and electrochemistry. As for theextensive applications and outstanding catalysis of graphite oxide and graphene inorganic reactions, it has been the research emphasis and hotspot for chemicalresearchers recently. In this thesis, three types of GO prepared by different methods were screened andGO by modified Hummers method was found superior to the others. The formation ofdifferent types of oxygen containing functional groups in GO were analyzed using IR,XRD, XPS, and elemental analysis. The catalytic activity of GO was evaluated for theesterification, transesterification and acetylation reactions. The esterification ofprimary and secondary alcohols afforded the corresponding esters in moderate toexcellent yields under mild conditions. GO-catalyzed esterification of tertiary alcoholsand phenols took place hardly. Moreover, GO showed highly catalytic activity for theacetylation and transesterification. As a weakly acidic solid catalyst, GO is easilyavailable, cheap, environmentally benign, efficient and well tolerant to variousfunctional groups.Besides, graphene was involed in the tert-butoxycarbonylation of alcohols andphenols. It showed that graphene was an efficient catalyst and the products wereafforded in excellent yields. As a carbocatalyst, graphene is stable, non-toxic, efficient, environmentally benign, easily recovered, and reusable. The structures of all theproducts were indentified by1H NMR and13C NMR.
