Thiodiglycol is a byproduct in petrochemical industries which is utilized in military and so on, but not sufficiently in our country. In this thesis, we focus on finding industries applications in the antioxidant.In this resesrch, thiodiglycol and 3,5-Di-tert-butyl salicylic acid were used as raw materials, and then 2, 2'-thiobis [ ethyl-2-( 3, 5-di-tert-butyl) salicyate ] would be synthesized at the catalyse of acid catalyst. When the product was synthesized , the factors influencing on the yield were discussed, such as the class and dosage of the acid catalyst, reaction temperature, reaction time, molar ratio of raw materials, and so on. After the ester was purified, the nature of it was determined by IR and UV. Finally, its removing ability to free radical was testified by UV and its oxidation resistance to oil was discussed by TG.The results showed that the optimum conditions of the synthesizing were as follows: used sodium bisulfate as catalyst and its dosage was 3% accounting for the total mass of 3,5-Di-tert-butyl salicylic acid, the reaction temperature was 170℃, the reaction time was 5 hours, the molar ratio of thiodiglycol to 3,5-Di-tert-butyl salicylic acid was 5:2,and the yield of esterification reaction was 84% at this optimum condition. Decompression distillation and mix-solvent extraction were used to purify product, but the result showed that decompression distillation was not so applicable in this thesis and mix-solvent extraction was effective in the research, and the result also showed that the optimum volume ratio of water to ethanol was 1:1. The IR result showed that the compound be maded in this research was what we had assumed. On the optimum condition of UV that the concentration of antioxidant was 0.25mmol/L and its function time was 20min, the result showed that its remove ability to free radical reached 98.55% .The TG result showed that its oxidation resistance to oil was better than commercial antioxidant HQT9557.
