The Morphological Comparison Of Skirt Ruche Between Chinese Ming Dynasty And Renaissance Period And The Research Of Design And Application

The skirt has played an important role in the garment field since it came into the world.From the research of skirt structure, the skirts are categorized with Chinese style andwestern style. After thousands years history of accumulation, Chinese skirts and westernskirts have formed their own special appearances and systems. They are different in style,shape and structure, and are trenchancy in local feature and aesthetic culture. Garment isconsidered as the carries of the society, culture, philosophic thinking and aestheticappreciation. It reveals the differences between the civilization of China and western bymaterialized formation, which makes the culture attract and appreciate each other.Among all the factors that come to the shape of the dress, decoration on the dress was oneof the most key factors to express the outline of the dress. Decoration on the dress have thecharacteristics of ornament , stereo perception and motion.The change of foliation’s density,strength, soft, gradation and orientation could perform different and varies shape effects.Therefore, as an element, decoration on dress play a great role of the appearance of thedress. Even the same decoration, varies appearances could be created by different typeversion, material and handicraft or technology, so the change of Chinese and western skirtstructure is related to the skirt ruche conformation.This paper discussed the thread consumption based on the contrast of Chinese planestructure and western stereo structure and summarized a kind of designing concept andstructure designing method, combined with modern design concept. Its functional,decorative, transformation and the application of fashion design were studied from themorphology. Then the paper contrasted the skirt ruche of Chinese plane structure to thewestern stereo structure, the structure designing method of each was summarized. Basing onthe studies, the designing idea and method of traditional garment is sufficiently applied inmodern fashion designing.
