The carbonylation process is a important branch of the vaporization metallurgy technique. It is a method that produces the volatile carbonyl compounds through the reaction of VIII transition metal and CO, further to separate pure metal from the alloy. The reaction formula is:Me+nCO=Me(CO)n. This technique, to refine nickel through carbonylation, was discovered by the British scientists Ludwig Mond and Car Langer in 1889, and realized the industrialized production in 1902. After the improvement of nearly 100 years, this technique has developed three operative processes:the normal-pressure one, the middle-pressure one, and the high-pressure one. It possesses the following advantages:the extensive adaptability to the raw materials, the simplification of operative process, the decrease of costs, the elimination of pollution, the variety and the excellent property of the products and ect. It could manufacture thousands of productions related with high-purity nickel.The Novament Corporation is the largest enterprise producing nickel carbonyl powder. Its annual production reaches 20kt, with the best quality. The product of Russian Norilsk has the quality second to Novament Corporation. Although nearly every factory uses the similar operative process, the different choices in the process parameters and the different control of the meticulous degree also make a difference in the quality of their product.This paper described the carbonylation metallurgy technique and the application situation of the products both inland and abroad. It researched the operative process and the key control technique of nickel carbonyl production. The major process parameter was assured, such as the vaporization of nickel carbonyl, the pressure of decomposition, the temperature of decomposition, and the retention time. The paper also verified the application of classification technique and other ones in the metallurgy industry. After analyzing the composition, AD, fess, micro-scale shape index, the nickel carbonyl we offered is qualified to be applied in the battery industry.
