The polarization property is another characteristic of light besides intensity, and can carry more information, so in certain situations for target detection and recognition, the probe of polarization has a clear advantage than of the usual intensity. In this thesis, based on the electromagnetic theory of light scattering and absorption of particulate media theory, using the Monte Carlo radiation transport method, the process of polarization of light in three-dimensional radiative transfer of inhomogeneous Mie scattering media is researched and analyzed. The main research work includes: Firstly, a three-dimensional model of the non-uniform transmission Mie scattering medium is built. Secondly studied the polarized radiative transmission characteristics of cloud background, aerosol background and ground in earth atmosphere. Finally, imaged the aircraft contrail flow as well as analyzed its characteristics, then discussed the points of the aircraft contrail polarization detection in the earth atmospheric background. The main work includes:Monte Carlo simulation of photons’ transmission, absorption and scattering processes in grids of three-dimensional space, calculated the optical properties of spherical particles based on Mie scattering theory, constructed a three-dimensional inhomogeneous Mie scattering media model solving the polarized photons’ transmission and counting. Finally, by a combination of theoretical and numerical examples verified calculation model.Using the three-dimensional inhomogeneous Mie scattering media polarized radiative transfer model, the relationship between the physical properties and the polarization characteristics is explained. Collected typical clouds, aerosol and ground background physical parameters, and discussed polarization properties of the three background environment characteristics under natural light incident conditions separately.A brief introduction of aircraft condensation contrails is given. Using the three-dimensional non-uniform Mie scattering medium model proposed before, aircraft condensation contrails were imaged to study the impact of projected incident zenith angle and wavelength of the imaging characteristics. Discussed the imaging detection of aircraft contrail effected by typical clouds, aerosol and ground background.
