At present, for the research of ground fissure and fault, many researchers have just studied relationship of a single fissure and fault. The commom law between ground fissure and fault in space and origin has not been researched. As a general rule, fault controls the formation and extension of ground fissure. In order to control the geological disasters of ground fissures, the research on inherent law of ground fissure and fault is particularly important.Through collecting and sorting out the related literature and research of ground fissure in North C hina, combined with field investigation and using a variety of means and methods, this article summarizes the symbiotic phenomenon of ground fissure and fault. The symbiotic relationship of ground fissure and fault refers to the relationship between space and origin. According to the location of the ground fissures and faults, the symbiotic pattern of ground fissure and fault can be summed up. Through analyzing the formation of symbiotic pattern, we realize that the fault is related to formation cause of ground fissure. Using Flac3 d numerical simulation software, the “growth” process of ground fissure is reproduced, and the crack propagation of concealed fault is analyzed according to the Mohr-Coulomb rule. In the end, it reveals the nature of the symbiotic mechanism of ground fissure and fault. The main results obtained are as follows:(1)Through field investigation and data processing, the symbiosis of ground fissure and fault is described in detail, and the symbiotic relationship between the space and origin is summarized.(2)According to spatial relationship of ground fissure and fault, it generalizes four symbiotic patterns: vertical growth model; transverse associated model; low order derived model; trend extended model.(3)Through the analysis of tectonic activity and mechanical analysis, the genetic mechanism of symbiotic pattern is summarized. The genetic relationship between ground fissure and fault is revealed, and the flow charts are drawn.(4)Using Flac3 d numerical simulation software,the vertical growth pattern is simulated. The simulation software reproduces the growth process of ground fissure. At the same time, it gives the scope of damage zone on both sides of the fault.(5)By means of stress analysis, the reasons of different spatial combination patterns of the ground fissures and faults are explained.(6)The symbiotic mechanism of ground fissure and fault is actually refers to the mechanism of the correlation between ground fissure and fault zone. It is the mechanism and process of growth, associated, derived and extended of ground fissures along the fault zone. There is a close relationship between space and origin of the ground fissure and the fault.
