There are abundant coal resources in Jungar Coalfield, so are there plenty of lithium, gallium, rare earths elements and other rare metal elements in coal. In this study, the theory of coal type rare metal enrichment were put forward on the basis of research results in this area. Mixed granite samples, collected from sediment source area-Yinshan Oldland, were carried on the analysis and research.Polarization microscope, ICP-MS, XRD and XRF and some other equipment were used to determine the characters the mixed rock from Yinshan Oldland, including petrology, mineralogy, constant element features, content of trace elements and rare earth elements. Then the relevant characteristics of coal from Jungar Coalfield were done for comparison. The main composition of Yinshan Oldland of granite in rock samples were quartz, feldspar and mica, while main mineral of Jungar Coalfield in the coal are kaolinite, quartz, calcite and pyrite, etc.On the basis of knowledge of geology and geochemistry, a sequence of corresponding simulation experiment were carried out, according to the the ancient environment and geographic conditions of Jungar Coalfield. Firstly, rock samples were dissolved with a variety of acid, in consideration of the scope of pH and different temperature, which is called as dissolving experiment. Then kaolin were used to adsorb lithium solution of configuration and gallium solution simulated adsorption experiment, which is called adsorption experiment. And adsorption characteristics of two kinds of rare metal ions is obtained.Considered the geological background of Jungar Coalfield, enrichment mechanism of lithium, gallium and rare earth elements was discussed as follows:(1) When the pH of solution is low enough, lithium can be released from source rock in a short time and then form solution with high lithium. The clay mineral kaolinite has good adsorption effect on adsorbing lithium. Therefore, concentration process of lithium was completed. Finally, clay minerals were carried off into the peat.(2) As gallium was preserved in rocks of weathering process, enrichment of gallium was completed. Then weathering rocks were taken into the peat swamps as part of the terrigenous detrital materials.(3) Rare earth elements can also be released from the source rocks under the simulation of natural conditions, and carried into the peat bog after adsorption by clay minerals, eventually. However, humic acid may has better adsorption effect to rare earths. Therefore, enrichment mechanism of REY still need further verification with a peat bog simulation experiment. This research mainly concentrates on trace elements before the source rock migrated to peat bog. As a result, the theory of enrichment of mineralization is fulfilled in the simulation experiment. Finally it is a good preparation for the peat swamp experiment.
