Today, we face many challenges, such as the change of global climate, economic crisis, the spread of diseases, etc.These are increasingly dependent on space-time data analysis to detect changes, predict trends, support decision-making.With the rapid development of computer and storage technologies,various trades generate massive attribute data in different spatial and temporal resolution.Although there is a lot of spatial-temporal data, but we failed to discover important information which led to lack of knowledge.This is the main problem that we are now facing.Traditional geographic information science emphasis on research data from the perspective of geospatial or property.However,techniques and methods from the perspective of time for data mining have not been sufficient attention.Visualization is a means of transmitting data through a graphical approach.It plays an important role in understanding and analyzing tspatial-temporal data.In the field of geographic information science, there have been more and more time visualization.Currently, there are three commonly used methods of visualization- timeline,time round and time wave.usually,three models have four functions in time visual expression- reference coordinate system,the system of representing data,interactive tools and reference and interactive tools to control the animation.In《The Time Wave.A new Method of Visual Exploration of Geo-data in Time-space》, the author studied the first three functions.This paper aims to study the fourth function based on the results of previous studies.We designed three kinds of flash animation, recruitted testers and balanced grouping, used eye-tracking technology and thinking aloud method, combined with usability evaluation indicators,tested the availability of time models. By analyzing the test results,we study the availability of three time models to answer the different questions,in order to understand human cognition time habits, behavior and other characteristics,and summarize the advantages and disadvantages of time visualization tools for different times questions, for the design and improvement of the time-related visualization solutions and systems to provide support.This animation is an experiment on single region of the rain.Firstly,users use different models to complete the corresponding tasks.Then,we analyze the test results from the qualitative and quantitative aspects to assess the availability of time models.These results are very important from the perspective of the time to research data.
