Wireless microwave technology is more and more widely used in our daily life, mobile phone as the main products of radio equipment gradually replaces many electronic devices for its convenience to carry, small volume, powerful function of communication and many other advantages, and cable electronics industry has entered the mobile Internet era. Meanwhile, the role that wireless microwave technology plays in geophysical exploration, satellite communications, electronic countermeasure in scientific research and military domain, microwave technology is becoming more significant than before. Thus, personnel in electromagnetic fields will be more and more popular in society. For educators, "electromagnetic field and electromagnetic wave" teaching has been a big challenge both at home and abroad. It is difficult for student to absorb the textbook knowledge within their own understanding because of a series of complicated theoretical formula, abstract electromagnetic field theory model and the invisibility of electromagnetic field itself in the electromagnetic field and wave of knowledge system. Hence, it is necessary to design a set of experiment system that enables students to combine the learned knowledge with phenomenon to improve the knowledge conversion. When the theory teaching has achieved great success, the teacher in the UESTC firstly engaged in the development of electromagnetic field and wave experiment instrument development, and designed a set of test system which is low cost, easy operation and closely combined with the practice.Main purpose of the paper is to describe new abilities of upgraded digitalized system which keeps and improves the function and performance of the original experimental system, providing hardware base for potential design. The method used in the research is modularization. Due to the wide range of involved subjects on system design, independent functional modules are designed and created alone. Finally, all parts of modules are put together for adjustment and improvement to meet the requirement of the total system.Three achievements are included in the content. Design and implementation of RF module include discrete multi-points frequency synthesis, step-controlled attenuator and power amplifier. Based on embedded MCU, digital circuit contains frequency control, power control, A/D conversion, distance measurement and serial port communication. Then software consists of user interface, data presentation, serial port communication, network communication and graphic image. Ultimately, function and performance test are operated on the integrated system, and practical education experiments going smoothly on the new system.
