Electromagnetic wave will generate polarization information in the process of reflecting and radiating with a target. The generated polarization information represents the own natures of the target. Target detection precision will be improved by effectively acquiring its polarization characteristics. This work has a great significance in different fields such as military target stealth, computer vision and polarization remote sensing. In this thesis, aiming at target detection and recognition requirements for coating targets with complex multilayer coatings and defect particles in practical application, the light scattering polarization models for these two kinds of coating targets mentioned above are established on the basis of researches on light scattering vector theory of rough surface. Moreover, change rules of reflection intensity and polarization properties of coating target are simulated and analyzed under different physical properties of coatings, existence forms of defect particles, and observation conditions. The main work finished in this thesis as follows:(1) Considering the zero-order electric field effects together with the contributions from the first-order electromagnetic field, surface light scattering polarization model of multilayer coatings target is built using vector perturbation method for multilayer coatings scattering based on the theory of polarized bidirectional reflectance distribution function.(2) According to Fresnel equations which describe the interaction between light and medium, the light scattering polarization model of the monolayer coating target with a spherical Rayleigh approximated defect particle respectively located below the substrate and in the coating is built through the description methods of equivalent interface and surface feature matrix combined with Rayleigh approximation theory.(3) Based on surface light scattering polarization model of multilayer coatings object, the change rules of light scattering intensity and polarization properties for typical monolayer anti-reflection coating and multilayer high-reflection coatings affected by different factors are simulated and analyzed.(4) For the monolayer coating with defect particles and slightly rough surface, the changes of target polarization properties are simulated and analyzed under different scattering mechanisms. Besides, under the influences of the location of defect particles, detection wavelengths, and target materials, the polarization properties of the monolayer coating object are studied.
