With the continuous development of the technology of coal extaction of mining area, the requirements of identified degree of the geological structure are also getting higher and higher. Therefore, it is important for us to analyze and summarize the characteristics of mining area geological structure and evaluate the complexity of geological structure to improve the safety of coal production and its efficience.Through the statistical analysis of Sunan mining area prospecting data and production data, the use of the knowledge of structural geology theory, fractal theory and grey fuzzy theory, the features of geological structure of Sunan mining area were summarized, the complexity of geological structure of Sunan mining area was studied, the relation between the development degree of large and medium-sized fracture structure and its depth in the mining area was discussed, the respective relation between the small faults and the development degree of large and medium-sized fracture structure and the development degree of fold structure. The results showed that:1.In Sunan mining area, the normal fault is the main fault types, accounting for more than90%of all faults, reverse faults’ growth is less, but the reverse faults are all large and medium-sized faults, its fall allover5m, the damage ability of coal seam is strong. Angle of the fault in mining mainly concentrated between60~80degrees, accounted for more than75%of all faults, that is to say, high angle faults in Sunan mining area are well developed. After comparing rose diagram of fault strike and rose diagram of fault tendency in Sunan mining area, the dominant direction of strike and tendency of fault in Sunan mining area are basic consistent was founded. The main fault strike directions are NNE, NE, the second main direction is NNW; the main tendency of the faults in mining area is SEE and NWW.2.Structure development degree of large and medium-sized fracture in Sunan mining area changes from strong to weak with the depth change from shallow to deep. This trend is reflected in two aspects, one is the change trend from shallow to deep of level, another aspect is the change from shallow to deep change in depth. This trend is a very good description of the negative correlation between the large and medium-sized fracture structure development degree and its depth.3.The development degree of small faults in Sunan mining area has a linear positive correlation with the degree of development of large and medium-sized faults and the development degree of folds, that is to say, the development degree of small faults increases with the enhancement of development degree of large and medium-sized faults degree, relation between the structure development degree of small faults and fold degree is the same.
