Wushi County is located in the southwest of the Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region. The hill-shaped terrains should cover around70.7%of the territory of the county. Because of complicated physical geography and geological environmental conditions, the fragile environment of the study area makes geological hazards very difficult. Collapse, landslide, and debris flow hazards have frequently occurred and become principal geological environmental problems. They threaten the safety of lives and property of the inhabitants. The thesis is based on detailed investigation of geohazards in Wushi County. On the foundation of extensively collecting geology data and investigation data in the region, the features of development, distribution law, conditions of formation and influencing factors of geological hazards in the region were analysed and studied. In order to better guide the work of hazard prevention and mitigation, author takes the approach of qualitative analysis to evaluate their stability. Finally, we use qualitative analysis combined with quantitative analysis method to make the zonation of the geological hazard susceptibility area, and provide the fundamental basis for geological hazards prevention work. Results of this paper are mainly as follows:(1) The main types of geological hazards in Wushi County are collapse, landslide, and debris flow, collapse is the largest number and the most widely distributed in all kinds of geological hazards. The proportion of collapse hazards now stands at88.89%. (2)Based on analysis the natural geography and geoecological conditions of the geological hazards in Wushi County, furthermore, by comparison with all kinds of the features of development, and conditions of formation of typical geological hazards of others areas in northwest China. The results showing that geological hazards distribute mostly at the mountain areas, the main development scale is small, and the types of geological hazards are rock, with water and fracture zone into a linear distribution.(3) According to the stability evaluation standards of geological hazards, using the approach of qualitative analysis to evaluate the stability of99survey points of geological hazards in Wushi County, among them,83points are good stability, under the conditions of natural factors and artificial factors, only have23points are good stability.(4)Based on analysis the features and main factors of the geological hazards in Wushi County, we take the approach of qualitative analysis combined with quantitative analysis method to make the zonation of the geological hazard susceptibility area. The study area are divided into the high susceptibility zone, the middle susceptibility zone, the low susceptibility zone and non-susceptibility zone, and the geological hazard susceptibility map could be generated at last. The evaluation showed that the distribution area of the low susceptibility zone in Wushi country is the largest. The distribution area is5833.59km2, which accounted for64.2%of the territory of the county. It is mainly distributed in the southern and northern mountainous areas of the study areas.
