This paper summarizes and analyzes the previous research results of genetic mechanism and deformation failure mechanism of translational gliding landslide. Taking "Hei-Shan-Po translational gliding landslide" as an example, research its typical genetic mechanism and the deformation failure mechanism of its rift. The main achievements are reflected in the following aspects:1. Calculated stability of six typical selected profiles of this landslide by transfer coefficient method. Combined the analysis of sensitive factor, comprehensive evaluate the stability on nature condition&rainstorm condition.2. Analyzed the evolution&formation mechanism of Hei-Shan-Po landslide:according to the field investigation and combining geological detection, conjectured original slope forms was close to horizontal. Because of tectonic stress and other external factors, anterior part of slope generated cracks at the very beginning. The front slide block was nearly horizontal pushed forward by the hydrostatic pressure generated in the cracks filled with water and the basement uplift pressure. After generated the earliest ancient rift, the anterior part of slope provided unfavorable air face for the posterior block to slide. At the same time, with the effect of hydrostatic pressure in newly generated cracks, the next slide block continued to generate. So,the process that Hei-Shan-Po landslide is generated from anterior part to posterior part, block by block.3. Reappeared the deformation features and compressed compaction process of ancient rift by numerical simulation:at the time that posterior landslide generated a26m wide rift, the huge energy that generated by slide vanished in the ancient, so the anterior slope has no deformation, only some expansive part showed in the middle.4. Proposed a countermeasures based on "water interception engineering", explained the social, economic and environmental benefits by taking the control measures.
