Receiver function is an important method to study the velocity structure of the underground media. As the development of the research methods, high resolution numerical modeling and imaging of receiver function becomes a trend. In this paper, firstly there is a review of the developing history of receiver function, including forward modeling and imaging. Because of the deficiency of the traditional synthetic method of receiver function, and referring to the mainstream methods of the numerical simulation in seismic exploration, forward modeling of receiver function based on the wave-separated equation is introduced. Subsequently, numerical simulation based on the elastic wave-separated equation is carried out and the wave field of the inhomogeneous media is simulated. Analyzing the snapshot and single shot record of the wave field, it could be found that the new method is correct and more accurate than the traditional one. It can be applied to the modeling of the elastic wave field. And comparing with the unseparated wave field, fine structure of P-wave and S-wave field can be acquired. The wave field of the receiver function is simulated with the pure P-wave source, staggered-grid finite-difference method and perfectly matched layer(PML) boundary condition. The results show that numerical modeling based on elastic wave-separated equation is suitable to the forward modeling of receiver function for inhomogeneous media.By the introduction of the pre-stack reverse time migration(RTM) method in seismic exploration, the pre-stack RTM method of receiver function is put forward. The migration imaging of theoretical receiver function datum indicates the feasibility of the new imaging method. Comparing the imaging results with traditional migration method, it’s easily discovered that the new method can lead to a migration profile with high precision and high resolution.
