Basin is the cradle of human civilization, the development and progress of human society is closely related to the basin. Along with the depth of global environmental change research, basin as a relatively complete geographical unit, the change of land use and landscape pattern in basin was highly prized by scholars. And the basin’s economic development depends on its natural resources, especially land resources. Studying landscape pattern of land use based on the basin unit can reveal the condition of ecological environment and achieve the coordination in resources, environment and economic development. As the important water conservation district and ecological security district, the quality of ecological environment and ecological security in the upper of Fenhe River affects all aspects of people’s production and life. The paper, connected with the concept in the study of land use and landscape pattern, analyses the land use, landscape pattern and its ecological effect during 12 years in the upper of Fenhe River based on remote sensing data on the year of 2000,2008,2012, and obtains a preliminary conclusion.(1)The main land use types in Fenhe River are grassland, farmland and woodland. The area of grassland, woodland and construction land increased during the period of study, and the other type of land use is decreased. During the 12 years, the construction land varies by the biggest margin and annual growth rate of 6.09%, the water body changes the least variation and annual change rate of 0.01%.(2)The space change of land use in the upper of Fenhe River shows, Reduced area of farmland transformed into grassland and woodland, conversion percentage was 22.73% and 28.22% respectively. A large area of grassland and woodland transformed mutually. At the same time, construction land occupies a large area of farmland and grassland, the reduced area of unused land was transformed into woodland, grassland and construction land.(3) The analysis of landscape pattern indicates that the landscape fragmentation of the upper of Fenhe River alleviated. The number of patches and patch density is reducing and the average patch size increased. Landscape diversity and agglomeration is also increasing. In addition, the connectivity of dominant landscape pattern also enhanced. This indicates human being’s interference on landscape pattern and the reform of natural ecology is increasing.(4) Finally, the analysis of ecosystem service value on the upper of Fenhe River from 2000 to 2012 shows the value of ecosystem services has been increasing, annual growth rate of 0.91%. Research from the ratio of the ecosystem services value provided by the type of land use shows the largest contribution to the ecosystem services value was woodland and grassland, accounted for 58% and 27% respectively. And analysis on the value of ecosystem services provided by the functions can be found, soil formation and protection accounted for the largest proportion about 20%, followed by biodiversity conservation and water conservation. So the Woodlands and water body play an important role in improving ecological environment. Analysis on ecosystem service value of the various counties, the land use degree is negatively with ecosystem service value.
