"The Metamaterial" in physics is a new academic vocabulary in the 21 st century, often appear in all kinds of scientific literature in recent years. A belief in the general literature metamaterial is " the natural material has not possessed superior physical properties of artificial composite structure or composite materials". Because it has a lot of novel magnetic properties, metamaterials can be widely used in microwave and optical fields. In this paper, the electromagnetic simulation software HFSS had used to research and design the metamaterial characteristics. Main work includes:Firstly,in view of the traditional S parameter extraction of multi-value and thickness resonance problem, improve the S parameter extraction method and through the preset model prove that this method has the universality and precision.Secondly,design coplanar double L-shaped structure metamaterial,we construct the equivalent circuit for permeability and the permittivity separately of the unit cell of the left-handed material. Then with the use of knowledge of RLC circuit, the effective permittivity and permeability that describing the relationships between the structural parameters and the left-handed bandwidth have been derived.Thirdly,the introduction of a S-shaped structure anisotropy of dielectric material, respectively, the equivalent circuit model is constructed and the dielectric constant of the circuit model of the permeability of such a structural unit and the establishment of the analysis from the formula and structure of the magnetic resonance frequency the relationship between the respective size of the unit. By adjusting the size reasonable, finally got left-handed pass bandwidth of 6.8GHz, is the first left-handed passband bandwidth of 9.7 times,effectively broadens bandwidthLastly, A coaxial filter based on the structure of the improved S type is proposed. Adds the structure of the material to the dielectric layer of the coaxial filter. The function of the filter is realized by using the stop band effect in the band. In this paper, the filtering characteristics of the coaxial filter are simulated by HFSS software. The filter can be applied in microwave engineering.
