Kubuqi desert is located on north side of Ordos Plateau.It has an important role on its ecological transition and independent natural element.In recent years,the impact of the growing desertification seriously affects the sustainable development of the local ecological environment.Therefore, the profound study of the vegetation rate and the vegetation landscape pattern or the Kubuqi region has significant meaning in ecological restoration andenvironmental construction.By using the remote sensing data from the AVHRR, MODIS,TM and MSS,and the software of ARCGIS10.0 and FRAGSTATS3.3 to analyse the changes of the past 33 years of the sand extraction and landscape spatial pattern from the data collected from year of 1981,2002 and 2013, meanwhile combining the fact of economic, social impact, we can sum up the following conclusions:(1)Between 1981 to 2013,Kubuqi’s vegetation coverage has upward trend changes overall.In the year between 1981 to 2002 some high vegetation coverage areas appear vegetation degradation,the majority of V level vegetation coverage shift to the grade Ⅲ and Ⅳ grade. West experimental region has serious vegetation degradation,soil desertification is obvious,eastern and central regions has the trend of the low grade shift to higher grade,and the desertification is shown a good trend toward the good direction.2002 to 2003, the vegetation coverage in the study area increased overall and the degree of the recovery is positive.(2)Between 1981 to 2013, the Kubuqi has an obvious vegetation types changes. Wherein,the desert vegetation and grassland vegetation has the downward trend,a significant increase in artificial vegetation,the left types remain unchanged.By analyzing the spatial variation of vegetation types in between 1981 to 2013 in the study area,the conclusions are:1981 to 2002 the low land vegetation type is mainly transferred to the type of artificial vegetation and the sandy vegetation type, low land desertification is serious;desert vegetation types mainly transfers to the Desert vegetation types;the sandy grassland vegetation transfers to the vegetation type, which indicating a serious grassland desertification;other types of vegetation types to sand, low land vegetation type conversions.2002 to 013 years, various vegetation types do not have significantly changes.(3)From the analysis of the overall landscape pattern changes of the Kubuqi desert from 1981 to 2013,the general outline of the study area is stable.The year of 1981 landscape is the homogeneous and continuous distribution landscape,in 2002 it transforms to a strong heterogeneity, uneven distribution of discrete patches mosaic. In 2003,the recovery is homogeneous, continuous distribution,but poor connectivity heterogeneity strong landscape.On the landscape level, the sandy vegetation is as the most outstanding landscape category,in 1981 to 2013,affected by human factor,the area reaches the peak level in 2002,then the connectivity is deteriorated,fragmented and heterogeneity enhanced.Desert vegetation and artificial vegetation patch geometries more complex.Desert vegetation and artificial vegetation patch becomes more complex,grassland vegetation,sandy vegetation,and other types of the vegetation become simplified.where vegetation and sandy desert vegetation landscape affected by human factors reaches the peak in 2002;there are many other types in the surrounding area such as sandy vegetation, low land vegetation, and there are many other types of artificial vegetation vegetation types.
