Mechanism of initiation of large rapid landslides has long been the focus of high-speed landslide studying among the world, especially after 1960s. The paper will mainly study large-sacle high-speed landslides.Taking Yingxiu—Wolong highway K24 landslide as an example, some field investigations and theoretical analysis are developed to study the mechanism for the sudden and intense departure of K24 landslide. The main contents and results are as follows:1.The paper has shown the geological-conditions of K24 landslide though field investigations and measurement, such as topography, geological-structure, formation-lithology and hydrogeological conditions.2.Analysis the movement process of K24 landslide and divide the whole movement process into four stages:the initial stage of shatter, the stage of sudden departure, the stage of flying and the stage of accumulation.3.Analysis the K24 landslide can’t sudden departure at the speed of 15-19m/s in the situation of only by seismic inertial force and gravity.The paper introduces the forming causes of locking segment and the effect of the locking segment destruction(1) Under the condition of strong vibration, and the coefficient of friction between sliding bed rock landslide rock mass is sharply reduced, the corresponding sliding resistance will be greatly reduced.(2) Due to karst pipeline jam, a large number of karst water accumulation in the landslide rock mass is, under the strong shock, pore water pressure increased, the effective of the method to reduce the pressure, the lower the friction between sliding body and sliding bed.(3) Locking section cut moment, a large number of elastic strain energy in the form of "elastic rebound" effect on the slippery rock body, and the sliding resistance of sliding bed at this time have fallen sharply, so the upper sliding body ejected in an instant, the K24 landslide with larger travel speed at the beginning of the motion.4. Analysis of mechanism for the sudden departure and study for acceleration effect of K24 landslide. Using clinical elastic impulse oscillation slope accelerating effect, acceleration effect and peak residual strength drop effect to explain the landslide of high speed starting acceleration effect.Put forward the calculation method of how many energy it release when locking segment destruct.5. According to the field measurement data, using Newton back K24 landslide kinematics rules on speed and ideally starting acceleration.
