Digital elevation model(DEM) contains plentiful amounts of terrainfeature information, which can express the surface patterns in discrete elevationdata. The macro and micro terrain description factors based on DEM, such asslope, aspect, surface rolling and roughness, can depict the ups and downs ofterrain surface at the given scale. Combining these terrain factors reasonably canpromote the macro terrain feature extraction. As a basic terrain feature, the defensive line plays an important role in thefield of landscape planning, disaster prevention and mitigation. The studysummarizes the related research results of terrain feature extraction field, thenpresents a defensive line extraction method based on micro terrain factors. Inaddition, the paper researched the influence of terrain factors to vehicle steering, that can instruct the design of path planning. The main work involves:(1) A defensive line extraction method looking at the micro characteristicsof the local defensive line is presented. The method analyzes the slope changesof mountain surface by using sliding window, filters the defensive points viaslope mutation, and then combines with other constrains to form the defensivelines.(2) In view of the existing environmental cost method model not accurateenough, not considering road width factors, the study starts from the generaldemand of real road network planning, inspects the environment cost model, and gives the modified path search solution.
