Now it was called technology times. Technology has been spread to every aspectsof human activities. Technology already became a destiny that irresistible for modernpeople, it start to be a decisive power to human social life, as Martin Heidegger. Itbrings convenience to social manufacture and life of modern people, but also intenseshock. Hence it develops further, its polarization gets deeper. So criticism of technologyis getting more intense. Extreme utilitarianism of science technology only drives peopleto chase profits but rational value. That deviates people’s fundamental objective. Lookback to the romanticism in18century, the repulse of absoluteness and inevitability, thedesire for “return to nature”, the expectation for “poetic life”, these drive people’s aimto a aesthetic and artistic world which is more enthusiastic and vivid. Although wecannot expect romanticism could save people from a jail of technology, it still can bringlight and color to this dark world. The thinking of romanticism to technology makespeople start to care about human nature in technology development. Complicated magicof life, advocated by romanticism point out a new direction for human destination.This essay intends to analyze and generalize effects that romanticism to technologyand whether romanticism could bring technology new development from historicalperspective. This essay contains following four parts except introduction andconclusion:First part, discuss what is technology. First of all, inspect definition of technologyfrom etymology perspective, then introduce function and position of technology inevery different civilization period.Second part, analyze appear reason of romanticism and its inherent essence. Narrateshistorical and cultural background of romanticism, looking for its historical evolve process, to reveal its inherent essence. This part will introduce develop venation ofromanticism in two ways: one, introduce history development of romanticism in UK,France and Germany; two, analyze arisen reason of romanticism from science, cultureand thought perspective.Third part is the most important. To know nature of technology, explore essence oftechnology criticism. And it will summarize technology view with romanticism whichwas presented by Rousseau etc. So that to find solution of the paradoxical life condition.Fourth part, raise and answer three questions: is it possible for back to the past? Whatis relationship between human and nature? Is it possible for aesthetics salvation? Thispart will hold the theory which inspect by the other parts as proof to analyze theimportance and shortage of romanticism of technology. This will find new possiblesolution for technology deviance.
