Since the strategy of―digital ocean" was put forward, the construction of―digitalocean" information infrastructure projects has become one of larger national Marineprograms that after our country was established. While the premise that to constructthe―digital ocean" is to obtain ocean data. With the improvement of science andtechnology, the means to access to information is increasing, such as the traditionalMarine monitoring equipment, Marine satellite remote sensing, the global Argo plan, numerical model calculation, etc. The data that get from these means, on the one hand, enrich the Marine data information, which provides a very beneficial basis conditionfor Marine research, on the other hand, brings the problems that the variety of Marinedata format, so how to interpret the data is one of the major problems that this articleneeds to solve. In addition, with the improvement of computer computing ability andthe development of information technology, convert the abstract Marine data tointuitive image becomes the attention focus for Marine science researchers in recentyears. So the key technology that this article needs to solve is how to choosevisualization technology and algorithm to show the Marine data, so that the Marinescientific researchers can obtain useful information from the images.Since have a fully recognize about the main problems and key technologies thatneed to solve, this paper researches and implements the function that Marinemulti-source data unification (in this paper―data unification" refers to interpret avariety of data formats and save them as a unified data format) and Marine volumedata visualization, which through understands the formats that common used in theMarine environment filed and visualization algorithm carefully, and based on thei4Ocean platform which is self-developed by Marine Information Technology laboratory of Ocean University of China. The main work and the research results ofthis paper are as follows:1)The design and implementation of Marine multi-source data unificationtechnologyIn view of the characteristics of Marine environmental data, such as multi-source,multi-format, multi-dimension, multi-variable, etc, the system of Marine multi-sourcedata unification is designed. Based on C++programming language and interfacefunction provided by third-party library, such as GDAL, NetCDF, HDF, MATLABand so on, the system starts from the common used Marine data formats, by designingcorresponding configuration files and uniform data storage structure, then realizes theinterpretation and re-storage of Marine data.2)The research and implementation of Marine data visualizationThis paper uses Splatting algorithm which is one of direct volume renderingalgorithms to implement visualization expression of the scalar data and vector data inMarine volume data. For scalar data, in case of sea temperature data sets, selecting theelliptical Gaussian kernel as reconstruction kernel which can reduce the aliasing to acertain extent. While for the vector data, take the ocean current data sets for example,in order to highlight the details of the image, this paper puts forward a new calculationmethod.3)The package and integration of Marine multi-source data unification andMarine data visualizationIn this paper, Marine multi-source data unification and Marine data visualizationis especially packaged into two libraries and embedded into the i4Ocean platform astwo basic functions, which enriches the functional module of the platform and is helpfor other researchers in our laboratory to develop other scientific efforts that based onit at the same time.At the moment, the functions of Marine multi-source data unification and Marinevolume data visualization have been applied to projects research. And the results show, the research productions of this paper not only have a good help for Marine scientificresearcher to solve the trouble and difficult that is brought by the difference of theMarine data formats, but put forward a new thought to express the Marine datavisualization, so the research results have stronger practicability and reference value.
