This paper, according the working condition scope of low-temperature multi-effect distillation units and the requirements of heat transfer, in the light of the plate evaporator’s some features, such as compact, efficient, proposes an idea:using plate evaporator instead of the tube-and-shell evaporator. The enhanced heat transfer experiment station that used the chevron plate evaporator and the LT plate evaporator as test pieces was designed and built. The heat transfer performance and flow property of evaporation and condensation were studied experimentally. The condensation heat transfer coefficient, the evaporation heat transfer coefficient and the flow resistance of the two kinds of plate heat exchanger were obtained though experiments under different steam flow, and the dimensionless correlations of Nu and f change with Re were synthesized. The heat transfer capacity of the two kinds of plate heat exchangers were analyzed though the obtained experimental data.The results provided a reference for the plate evaporator used in desalination and hydropower generation systems.Finally, a wind tunnel experiment station was built which used the serpentine fined flat tube as experimental elements for the purpose of the condensation water freezing law in flat tube. The heat transfer performance of serpentine finned flat tube was obtained under conditions of single-phase water convective heat transfer. The results could be used as basis for predictive freezing water condensation regular pattern, and provided a reference for the development of antifreeze measures in thermal power direct air cooling unit.
