Based on the analysis of mechanism in electrostatic atomization and related theories ofdroplets charged breaking, this paper conduct detail experimental research on the characteristicof double-capillary electrostatic atomization, and compared with the single-capillary. For thepurpose, the main work was as follows:1) An experimental apparatus was built up to study the patterns of double-capillaryelectrostatic atomization by using the microphotography method. The result indicated thatseveral typical patterns, for example “droplet”,“pulsation” and “cone jet”, would turn up indifferent conditions. Compared with the starting voltage of the single and double capillary whenappear stable cone jet at the same flow rate. The starting voltage of stable cone jet with theincrease of flow rate increased, but the magnitude of increase was a downward trend. And foundthat with the increase of voltage, atomization would be more fully, the spray cone angle wouldbe large.2) LDV and PDA were used to test the diameter and velocity of the droplet, and then theregularity of distribution in different spatial location were concluded. As a result of this, theeffect of flow rate and applied voltage on the diameter and velocity of droplet was also discussedand compared with the related characteristic of single-capillary; The general, the flow rateincreases, the average droplet diameter increase, while the voltage increases the mean dropletsize become small; Found far away from the capillary produced obviously two time atomization, droplet size is smaller, distribution is more mean; Compared with the single capillary, doublecapillary electrostatic atomization have larger atomizing range, droplet size is smaller, and thedroplet size distribution is more uniform; and single and double capillary electrostatic dropletvelocity distribution is similar.3) This paper tested the droplet deposition property of the double-capillary electrostaticatomization and analyzes the flow and applied voltage’s influence on the deposition property. Then the analysis is compared with the single-capillary; Found the flow rate increases, theatomizing range also increases, but liquid deposition density is large; and the increase in voltagewould increase the atomizing range, but liquid deposition density is small. The results of this study reveal some inherent regulars of double-capillary electrostatic atomization property, which provides important basic data for the application of electrostaticatomization technology in material preparation, dyeing and printing engineering.
