In this paper, experimental study of the deformation and crushing characteristics of single dropletin the transverse airflow is conducted. The deformation and crushing characteristics of droplets aremainly studied through following aspects:1.The impacts of the initial droplet diameter on the criticaltransition number of We between different fragmentation patterns as well as the deformation andcrushing process.2.The variation between the deformation amount of droplets along the airflowdirection and vertical direction and the number of We as well as dimensionless time.3.The variationbetween the initial diameter of the droplet as well as the number of We and the deformation andcrushing time.4.Through the statistical analysis of the instantaneous velocity and acceleration of themain droplet after initial droplet broking up, studies of the motion characteristics of different initialdiameter of droplet when the number of We is the same and the motion characteristics of differentnumber of We when the initial diameter is the same are conducted.5. Through the statistical analysisof the size distribution of the small droplet in space after initial droplet broking up, based on fuzzymathematics theory, the weight coefficients of factors of fragmentation process including initialdroplet diameter d and relative velocity v in the experiment condition are calculated, the resultsshowed that the impact of two factors on droplet breakup is not constant.Based on the experiment, the VOF method and the k-ε model are combined, this paper utilizebusiness software FLUENT on the three-dimensional numerical simulation of the deformation andfragmentation process of droplets under different airflow velocity, the effects of the flow structure ondroplet breakup are studied. The simulation results show that flow structure determines the brokenmodel of the droplets.
