The low-altitude photographical survey technique based on unmanned aerial vehicles hasattracted much attention in recent years as a good complement for survey by large aircraft, due to its flexibility, user-friendliness, low altitude flight below clouds and low cost. Based onextensive research and working experience of the author, this paper presents technicalspecifications and an integrated lectotype plan applicable for large-scale map surveys bylow-altitude digital aerial photographical systems of unmanned aerial vehicles. Consideringpractical needs in production, a low-altitude digital photographical system based onlight-weight unmanned aerial vehicles is integrated. In the view of application, this paper thendiscusses an operation method and a technical flow path of the proposed system. Its validityfor large-scale may surveys, in terms of system integration and project operation, is testifiedthrough a real case. In addition, its accuracy is tested through hand-held GPS and tapemeasurement on the spot. The result shows that the comparison accuracy meets therequirement of the large-scale surveys. Finally, comments and suggestions are presented foradvances of the techniques and future research. This paper will provide help for the lectotype of the photographical systems suitable forspecific survey projects. This research as well as problems existing in production serves asexperience to improve large-scale survey in small areas and emergency survey by means ofphotographical systems based on unmanned aerial vehicles.
