Panax ginsing is a traditional Chinese medicine, which belongs to Acanthopanaxgracilityusaceae Panax. It has some function such as invigoration, inhalation of air, promotingblood flow, to lengthen one’s life and so on. Ginsenoside is one of the active compounds. Inrecent years, how to increase the content of ginsenosides becomes more and more popular inmodern research.Ginsenoside, which are glycosylated triterpenes, are biosynthesized through the isoprenoidpathway by cyclization of2,3-oxidosqualene. It have been used as a healing drug and healthtonic, which are derived from Ginseng plants. This paper introduces how to increase the contentof ginsenosides through adding elicitors. The experiment presented in this paper is based on ginseng hairy root. It is proved in theexperiment that the content of the ginsenosides can be improved by adding MeJA in the22thday of the logarithm stage of the ginseng hairy root compared with the references. And the bestconditions are:6×10-4μM, adding in the22th day and impacting on the ginseng hairy rootfive days. The content of peroxidase, catalase, polyphenoloxidase, are traced in72hours afterthe MeJA is adding. It is shown that the activity of peroxidase, catalase and polyphenoloxidase, reached the peak within the24hour compared with the references. The improvement of activityof these three enzyme are presents the enhancement of secondary metabolites, which isbeneficial to the synthesis and accumulation of secondary metabolites. We also found that therelative expression quantity of the six key enzyme in the biosynthesis of the ginsenosides SQS,SQE, OSC, DS, β-AS, CAS are increased significantly by adding MeJA. The results showed thatadding MeJA, which stimulates the hair root metabolic activity, is beneficial of the biosynthesisof the ginsenosides. The information is beneficial to our further understanding the ginsenoside biosynthesispathway and it may be also helpful to the rational manipulation of the plant secondarymetabolism by using the molecular tool assisted engineering approach.
