Crustal plates activities more and more frequently since the beginning of the21stcentury and the secondary disasters generated by the earthquake increasingly endangerthe human’s life and property safety seriously. Our country’s western region is located inthe first and second terrain ladder. It has a large magnitude and high frequency whenearthquake occurs, and the earthquake would lead to large-scale landslide development. It would inevitably generate numerous high steep rock slopes when infrastructureprojects put into service as the energetic support of the Great Western DevelopmentStrategy. Strengthening wedge slopes’ security and stability researches and disastersavoidance under seismic action have vital significances to ensure the human’s life andthe safe service of the infrastructure projects. It often uses the pseudo-static method to analyze the stability of wedge slopessubjected to seismic effect. The basic idea is to simplify the complex dynamic effect tothe horizontal and vertical inertia force acting on the mass center of the wedge slide andset equilibrium equation along the sliding surface in order to solve the safety factor. Butthis method is only applicable to design slope stability issue which has smallerearthquake acceleration and inconspicuous dynamic effect. On the basis of previousresearch, this paper considering the influence of the damping force, studies on theinstability mechanism of the wedge slope under seismic load by combining the methodsof theoretical analysis and numerical analysis.By studying on the response of the wedge slope under static load and earthquakeeffect, it can observe and analyze the calculation results such as stress, deformation andstability of the wedge through the finite element analysis software ANSYS by inputtingthe seismic wave of the Wenchuan earthquake. The results show that with the increasingof reduction factor, the displacements of the monitoring points under seismic effectincrease significantly and the wedge slope tends to be destroyed. In order to analyze the stability of wedge slope subjected to seismic loads, thepaper uses sine wave as the earthquake acceleration time history curves and considersthe influence of the damping force of the earthquake effect by using pseudo-dynamicmethod. The paper solves the analytical solutions of the damping force, the inertialforces, the safety factor against sliding and the sliding displacement of the wedge sliderunder earthquake effect. It also analyzes the influence of the wedge size etc. on slope safety factor and sliding displacement of the wedge through an actual case. The resultsshow that with the increasing of wedge size, the amplification coefficient of the seismiceffect and the horizontal earthquake acceleration coefficient, the wedge slope tends tounstable failure. And with the increasing of the internal friction angle and the cohesiveforce, the wedge slope tends to stability. It is the first time that the paper use pseudo-dynamic method to derived the safetyfactor and the slip displacement of wedge slope subjected to seismic load. And it alsohas important implications for guiding studies of rock slope stability and disastersavoidance.
