An Evaluation And Approaches For Enhancing The Competitive Power Of China's Commercial Banks

This dissertation is devoted to the study of commercial bank competence. Competence is the continuous accumulatin of an effective portfolio of knowkedge and capabilities and can be regarded as a type of dynamic capability. Research on commercial bank competence has slways been a challenging topic of intense academic and practical interest. Bankers, economists and managerial scientists are all deeply interested in this issue. This dissertation takes as its background the theories of competence and the need by the China's commercial banks to develop their competencies. On the basis of analyzing the theories and research in enterprise competence and related theories in general economics and financial economics, this dissertatin attempts to establish a theoretical framework on commercial bank competence.This dissertation delves into the general theory, in-depth analysis of commercial bank competence and in the process tries to put forward policy suggestions on this issue. Structurally, this dissertation analytic clue is that: firstly, the author puts forward background and purpose of reseach issues, reviews the theory of enterprise competitiveness, elaborates the basic concept of enterprise competitiveness and features of it, analyzes the substance of competitiveness of commercial bank in details. Then, the author analyzes the actuality of competitiveness of the China's commercial bank, and compares with overseas'commercial bank. Next, the author constructs an evaluating index system of commercial bank's competitiveness through applying the Analytical Hierarchy Process, and empirical analysises 14 Chinese commercial banks. Finally, upgrade strategy focuses on the analyzing of main policies on the basis of the results of empirical analysis, and it is an extension of empirical research conclusion.This dissertation makes the following contributions. First, it establishes a theoretical framework for commercial bank competence on the basis of extensive literature review and the integration of related theories in general and financial economics. Secondly, a multilevel index system is established in this dissertation consisting of three major key elements of knowledge innovation, organization ability and basic circumstance, which solves the problem in existing competitiveness evaluation study which only concerns the current, security and profitability in banks'finance neglecting the comprehensiveness or dividing the hierarch of evaluation index system.
