Since opening-up policy and entry of WTO, China has been attracting an increasing amount of FDI and TNCs' entry into China is boosting as time goes on. But according to statistics from the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC, an overwhelming majority of foreign investment flows to manufacturing or services, and the amount to agriculture is extremely limited. For example, in the year 2004, FDI to mining and manufacturing amounted to US$ 109.74 billion, accounting for 71.5% of total FDI (US$153,479 billion) to China, and that to agriculture was only US$ 1.208 billion, accounting for 0.79%. Why is FDI inflow to agriculture so limited? What are the problems and reasons? Fundamental reason lies in agricultural investment climate. Thus how to improve FDI investment climate in agriculture of China has come to the agenda. This dissertation explores suggestions on improving China's agricultural investment climate to attract more FDI to agriculture after analyzing the status-quo of China's agricultural investment climate.Chapter 1 presents the significance and status-quo of the research on agricultural investment climate and status-quo of FDI development in agriculture of China. They are prerequisites for this study.Two important chapters of this dissertation are Chapter 2 and Chapter 3, in which concrete factors affecting FDI in agriculture of China are analyzed theoretically and empirically. Chapter 2 puts emphases on qualitative studies. This chapter first introduces investment climate theory that provides rationale on which this study is based. Then economic and political climates in agriculture are analyzed.
