Core competence theory is one of strategic management theories based on Resource-based View, whose appearance and prevalence is not only the mainstream trend in theories circles, but the indispensable request in real competition. The practical functions of core competence theory become more concerned in the process of its development and improvement, and the problem of recognition and evaluation on core competence turns into one of the critical difficulties among many issues.Meanwhile, with the unprecedented intense competition in markets, an important concept, Customer Value, arose in the field of marketing, whose contents of relevant theories have got richer and become the key core of contemporary marketing theory, for its deep theoretic connotation and significant practical meaning.Customer value theory offers the theoretic foundation and referent models for evaluating on core competence as well as it brings the brand-new progress for marketing. Just under such background, this paper effectively makes use of the mature customer value theories in order to give new view and method of evaluation on core competence. Under the guidance of value-chain analysis, this paper combines the inside and outside recognitions on core competence, analyses the first layer outside it in view of customer value on the base of dissecting the hierarchical system of core competence, and emphasizes on exploring the method of outside evaluation on core competence based on customer value by building analytical model, so this paper provides the necessary empirical foundation for evaluating on core competence synthetically.This paper is composed of five chapters. The first chapter tells us the actual significance and research blocks about core competence theory,meanwhile, it puts forward the useful thinking of customer value theory, and summarizes the major research contents, problems to be resolved and research methods. The second chapter reviews the main components of core competence theory in order to offer foundation of evaluating on it, including source of theory, concepts, characters, compositions, recognition, evaluation etc. The third chapter introduces the main views of customer value theories, including source of theory, concepts, nature and so on, and approaches the inner relation between core competence and customer value. The fourth chapter draws into models of customer value theories and the tool of value-chain analyzing, and then builds a model of evaluation on core competence based on the indices system of outside recognition in view of customer value. The last chapter sums up the main research points and significance in this paper, and puts forward the necessity and urgency of further studying as well.
