City is a complicated organism. With the Progress of our society,city has the process oforigination, transformation and decline of his own. Tracing the history of the cities,development,the whole process is a continual process of renewal ,redevelopment andmetabolism. In the now a day industrialization time and information time, City renewal hasbecome one of the topics on city development of the world. Old city renewal is anindispensable link in the urban development. Within these years,along with market economysystem processing,large-scale redevelopment has gradually become the primary mode of ourold city renewal.Now urban renovation and conservation has become the hottest topic in urban plan andcity construction research. Under the effects such as basic needs of living,the will ofadministration officer and the interest driven by the developers,urban conservation come tobe a huge"movement",or we can say a general trend of social and urban development. Itconcerns many aspects and levels of our society. The problem of urban renewal at town is alsooutstanding with the rapid process of urbanization in China.The paper was based on THE OVERALL PLAN F0R THE AREA 0F LINGYUANCITY which the author took part in1ast year. Through analyzed the specific problems facingthe renewal of LingYuan city,the paper discussed the cause of its formation and possibleways to solve those problems,pertinently proposed relevant countermeasures and methodswhich can provide valid approaches as example to the further practice of old city renewal inother city.Firstly,the paper started with the analysis of the theories and Practices of old cityrenewal in western country and Chinese,summarized the deve1opment experience of old cityrenewal in domestic and abroad to provide theoretic and practical references to LingYuan city.secondly,with the development history of LingYuan city renewal as the background, thepaper summed up current information of LingYuan city and then classified them. On the basisof this,the paper analyzed not only the Predominant resources but also the distinctcontradictions in detail,which resources are deserved to be preserved and developed, as thecontradiction may counteracted the city development. At last, according to these subjects, thepaper explored some effective approaches and put forward the general countermeasures.
