| With more and more concerns on the environmental problems recently, it is noticed that construction industry has played an important part in shaping society's physical environment on one hand; on the other hand, it should be more responsible for the natural resources and energy depletion and the environmental pollution than other man-made products. So it is very significant for the sustainable development in our country to implement strategies of sustainable development in the industry of construction. Strategies of sustainable development must be implemented in the life-cycle it is to say in the phase of decision-making, design and construction of the architecture, for the achievement of sustainable development of the architecture. Environmental impacts during the phase of construction, which is more direct and obvious, are analyzed in this paper firstly, on the base of which, the cause of the pollution and some measures to control the pollution are discussed. To assess the environmental performance of contractors it needs a systematic and objective assessment tool. However, most of the existing assessment methods are not designed for assessing construction activities, even some of methods refers to this problem but not comprehensive. Through reference of the indicators of existing Green Building Assessment tools and broad investigation, Green Construction Assessment (GCA) is introduced in this paper in which two types of indicators (Management and Load) and corresponding assessment criteria are developed. Then the weighting of each indicator is awarded through AHP and assessment model is created, based on which, we can rate the construction according to the scores of M and L. In the end, GCA is applied to a real-life project, which has proven the praticability of GCA. GCA helps to set standards to evaluate contractors'performance and provide a tool for their self-assessment, which is helpful for contractor's continuous improvement on environmental performance. The key to carry out green construction is to improve the environmental management of the construction enterprise, so it needs to establish and implement a systematic environmental management system (EMS). Firstly, the necessity of establishing EMS in the enterprise and the benefits brought by it are analyzed. Then, some problems such as the procedures of setting up EMS, law and regulations related to construction sites and identification and evaluation of important environmental factors in construction enterprises are discussed. Lastly, the difficulties of establishing EMS in the enterprise are identified and countermeasures are put forward. |
