China's light-duty vehicle industry has gone through 50 years'development, since the first Yuejin 2.5 ton light-duty vehicle was produced by Nanjing Automotive Factory in March of 1958. After China's opening up and reform, the light-duty vehicle industry gains momentum with the fast development of China's national economy. The light-duty vehicle in this paper refers to freight carrier with a total mass of 1.8-6 tons, including light-duty truck, pick-up and four-wheel agriculture vehicle existing in China's special development period. The vehicle mainly undertakes medium and short distance haulage between urban and suburban areas, and ranks the second in terms of market share only behind passenger car. This paper reviews the development course of China's light-duty vehicle industry, analyzes the tremendous changes of this industry during initial stage, fast growing stage, stable developing stage and fiercely competitive stage; gives explanation in details on the current market status, competing situation, characteristics of market performance as well as the products and market positioning of main manufacturers; On above basis, analyzes the future market trend of light-duty vehicle, which indicates that light-duty vehicle has bright prospects and will make great progress as a commercial purpose vehicle with the speeding up of China's economic growth.
