Research On Distribution Center Order Picking Optimization Project

Distribution center act as the joint between supplier and end customers. Themultiformity and fluctuating of customers' requirement is the main factor which affectthe operation performance of DC. How to make the operation flow flexibly byunderstanding the demand of customer which change frequently is a challenge for DCmanagers. Order picking is one of the most critical operations to meet customers'requirement in warehousing and supply chain management operation. The researchfocus on two factors which impact the productivity of order picking operation: slottingoptimization and the choice of order picking strategy. Basing on the analysis of orderpatterns, the research find that it is more efficient for DCs which have medium Demandskewness to implement different order picking strategy coordinating with different orderpatterns.
