On The Contribution Of Technological Progress To The Growth Of Economy

With the development of economy and society, new production mode has replacedthe old one gradually, and technology has penetrated into every factor of socialproduction forces widely. The history of our economic development of the Reformand Opening Up says the sustained and rapid economic growth during last 20 yearsrelies mainly on capital, labors and natural resources, but the contribution oftechnological progress was small. This kind of extensive economic growth cannot besustainable in the long term. In light of this, the CPC put forward the key of therealization of China 5-to-10 years objectives for the development of economy andsociety was the transition of the mode of economic growth from extensiveness tointensiveness and the core of this transition was technological progress. So the thesisthat chooses the contribution of technological progress to the growth of economy asthe topic and discusses the modes in which technological progress accelerates thegrowth of economy has theoretical and practical meaning for "Two Changes" and therealization of our great medium-and-long-term ends. The thesis is divided into 5 chapters. The first chapter, as the introduction of thewhole thesis, mainly illuminates the special meanings of technological progress andof economic growth and discusses the types of technological progress and the otherfactors that also determine the growth of economy. The second chapter, with a view tothe phases of technological self-development, systematically discloses the functionmechanism of technological progress onto economic growth from 4 aspects that aretechnological supply and demand, technological innovation, technologicaltransformation and technological diffuseness. The third chapter can be divided into 2parts. The first part explains the change of the importance of technological progress inthe economic growth theory from the point of history. The second part, based on thesituation of China, pays attention to the contribution of technological progress to thegrowth of economy in the real life. The fourth chapter analyses some models andindexes for calculating this contribution and the ways of determining parameters ofthose models, and then brings forward the thought of calculating the contribution oftechnological progress is separating this contribution and valuing it quantitatively inthe theory of systems engineering and economy mathematics. The fifth chapter,continuing the research of the fourth chapter, establishes a suitable model forcalculating the contribution of technological progress, and makes a regressive analysisof this contribution to China economic growth on the basis of related data from year1981 to year 2003, and then compares the regressive results with the contributionrates of technological progress of some other countries. The last 2 chapters are thekernel parts of the thesis.
