Wuhan, as the core city of central China, with strong industry, booming business, broad areas, and convenient traffic, is the financial, cultural and educational center in the middle of China. It has a long history, an effulgent culture and a glorious revolutionary tradition, which makes it an honorable historical and cultural city. Where rivers joining together and Mt Tortoise and Snake standing on each side, numerous lakes dotted here and there, long bridges on waves, beautiful sceneries of the nature entitled Wuhan to be a peculiar garden city. In face of such and important huge city, it is a quite practically significant to learn its developing process, to make a retrospect of its past and present, to explore its rational city positioning and to prospect its future. Referring to above aspects, this paper intends to dissertate and appraise the developing history of Wuhan resumptively, in order to get something regular to promote the Sustainable Development of Wuhan as a real modernized and international city in the era of Market Economy. On gain and loss of the develop process, this paper is based on the ideas that the city is where people live. In views of scientific development, it is supposed to be built to adapt to living of human beings as a harmonious and systematical environment, with more space for human nature and its interactions. Urban environment, appearance, public buildings are supposed to display the concept of civil popularity and communion. The urban natural and social ecologies should be harmonious and it is must not permitted to develop the city by depredating the nature. The urban natural and social ecologies are integrated with interactions between human beings and nature.
