Decipherment Of Aesthetic Cultural Meaning Of Qipao

Qipao is a kind of classic clothing which owns Chinese traditional characteristics, possesses national representativeness and manifests Eastern women's beauty. By observing the formation and development of Qipao, this thesis summarizes that Qipao has formed its own characteristic formal beauty, i.e. profile, standing collar, front, opening, frog button and embroidery. Based on the comparison between the traditional Qipao in Qing Danasty and the reformational Qipao in the modern times, this thesis indicates that Qipao shows its different aesthetic style in the diverse cultural background due to the variation of human's belief and aesthetic taste. The traditional Qipao in Qing Danasty with the characteristics of multifarious design, gentle style and single form, is influenced by Confucian thoughts of class, mean and commonness. The reformational Qipao in the modern times with the characteristics of natural simpleness, graceful figure and free variety, is influenced by Western thoughts of equality, humanism and freedom. In the modern society with rapid changes, Qipao still has its changeable charm and unique spiritual cultural meaning. It positively influences the whole industry of clothing design and becomes a kind of national symbol which owns the important position on the Chinese and international clothing stage.
